Background of Football
Early records are vague but it is proven that there was a football team as early as 1895, meaning that football was played at the University of the Pacific for a little over 100 years. Football at UOP experienced its highest point in the 1920s and 1940s.

A well-known coach, deserving of his own website was Amos Alonzo Stagg who was named Football Coach of the Year by the American College Football Coaches Association.

After many years of success and losses, the decision was ultimately made to close the football program in 1996.
On this website we explore the football program at the University of the Pacific, primarily we focus on how and why the football program ended.
